This was certainly served by the EPL yesterday as Man United and Chelsea banged in 10 goals combined in their respective matches. Full credit to Chelsea, but by now, Man United's already playing breathtaking style of attacking football as they banged in 4 goals for the 4th consecutive time.
Excellent.
It all started when Nani, a new summer signing crashed in an absolute thunderbolt shot which crashed the top corner of the goal from, like 30 yards out? Great start for MU, but a little let-off allowed Boro to score a goal 3 minutes later. But it doesn't matter, as they NEVER have the ability to withstand the waves of attack from MU, with the front players Ronaldo, Rooney, Nani and Tevez linking brilliantly together to give Boro a torrid time. Soon the deserved second goal came, as Nani robbed the ball of Stewart Downing, who tried to act smart by dribbling in the penalty area, and Rooney was there, one-touch, den bang into the left corner of the net. I think any world class keeper would not save those kind of ruthless shot with power and precision.
Then second-half came, again with MU launching non-stop attacks on the Boro defence, which by now already hoping for the match to end. It was a terrific display by Rooney and Tevez, who are beginning to forge a formidable and dangerous partnership upfront, and it was clearly shown as the third goal came along. Tevez collected a curled pass from the once-again outstanding Anderson, flicked first-time to the legs of Rooney. With exceptional vision, Rooney took a touch away from the defender, then released a backheel pass to the incoming Tevez before shooting past Schwarzer, the Boro keeper.
By now I was already off my chair, stunned by such Joga Bonito football. If anyone still says Rooney and Tevez can't play together, you better watch this match again.
The Old Trafford crowd's already rocking. But it's still not enough, as the 4th goal seems inevitable. Again the impressive link-up between Rooney and Tevez was evident, with Ronaldo feeding Rooney with a one-touch header. Rooney darted to the outside of the D box, passed to the Tevez who has acres of space on the left. Tevez calmly evaded the tackle of a defender, before his shot richocheted off a defender which beats the poor keeper. 4-1 the score, and I can't believe that MU had the worst start at the start of the season with them scoring like this.
The blossoming partnership. Goalkeepers, good luck. =)
There's also another crunching game tonight, with Liverpool clashing with Arsenal, who themselves also played wonderful brand of attacking football domestically and in Europe. 7-0 is no easy feat, full credit* to them. But I still think Arsenal haven't met any top teams yet, and tonight they will truly know their own credentials.
But seriously, I'm putting my bets on Liverpool as they tend to have a habit of excelling in high-profile games. Not to forget, the must rediscover that comeback spirit, which they are really good at, in winning Arsenal. (credit*)
See the credit* that I wrote? I still give credits to what teams achieve okay =P lol.
