Past
Present
Look at the difference between these 2 handphones. One was created about 6-7 years ago (maybe more), the other one was the symbol of technological takeover mushrooming in the current world today. Back then, having that phone, which is considered junk now, gives you a feeling of having a brand new Mercedes. Now, a person would not even buy it even if I were to sell at rm30.
On the other hand, having a camera phone is now considered nothing as years go by. The intention of having a better phone, or any other gadgets becomes a competition, and if you lose, you have a nickname of "noob".
Before I continue, I would like to emphasize that I'm not showing off my new handphone. XD
And yes, it's mine. =D
Back to topic.
The veracity is that everything keeps changing everytime, and the saying "time and tide waits for no man" is certainly spot-on. But a question inevitably arises, are the changes good or bad? It can be good for me, but it can be bad for the other person as well. Unfortunately, no one really cares about it. Such cavalier attitude, is also one of the many changes happening around us today.
Violence
One of the major changes is excessive violence. We don't hear brutal killings of an 8-year-old back then in the 70s or 80s, nor out-of-the-mind rapings of so many innocent young teenage girls in the early hours of day. It was much safer back then, with worse comes worst, a major killing happening once in a blue moon. Now, it's all over the headlines almost everyweek, if not everyday. Major killings in an university by some mad asses? Unimaginable. They always say World War III is bound to happen one day, and I personally think, it will.
Peace, you say?
Environment
replaced by
So often the case isn't it? Day by day we damage God's gift for the sake of our own development, or should I say, sacrifice. Yes, we are able to enjoy what the development brings to us in terms of comfort and convenience in the next 30-40 years, but have we thought about in the next 90-100 years? Already now signs of more natural disasters are evident as a result of the deteriorating pollution level, and if we are still that ignorant towards what is happening around us, I'm sad to say, lush greeneries and fresh oxygen would become history.
Reduce, reuse and recycle folks.
Morale
This is possibly and arguably the biggest change among us earthlings. I would think there is no more compassion shown towards each other in this world right now. War, rapings, killings, bribery, political flops, invasion of privacy, it goes on and on. I'm sure God created us for better reasons rather than us killing each other. Certain leaders don't show good example to the people, while the people themselves do not even bother about others. The society now has become "it's either you or me, no us" sort of thing. Love is lost.
Everything changes, but there is one thing which will never change, which is God's love for us. How many sins have we committed, but He still shows his love to us no matter who we are. So are the above changes appropriate to repay what He has done for us?
Love has no boundaries, and it is what all of us need now. So during this festive season, show some love to everyone around you as who knows, you might get rewards much more meaningful then merely getting angpaus. =)
Happy Chinese New Year to each and everyone of you. =D
